Stop dreaming and start believing!
If french toast used to be a staple breakfast item for you before your low carb lifestyle, get ready to introduce this baby back into your diet!
In all reality, your french toast is only as good as the bread you make it with. When using a gluten free and keto bread recipe, make sure your bread is fully cooked, you’ll be able to tell it is when the center is completely dry. If you’re not sure when to pull the bread out of the oven, err on the side of over-cooked rather than under-cooked. No-one likes soggy french toast, trust me.
My recipe below will result in crispy, delicious, and flavorful french toast every time!
The best low carb and sugar free syrup I’ve used thus far is Lakanto Maple Flavored Syrup. I’m sure you’ve seen everyone rave about this before (no surprise there).
Complete your breakfast with a side of berries or eggs and bacon (YUMM!)
- 3 Slices Keto Bread
- 1 Egg
- 1 Tbsp Half and Half
- 1 Tbsp Butter
- 4 Tsp Sweetener 1:1 Sugar Conversion
- 2 Tsp Cinnamon
- 1 Tsp Vanilla Extract
- drizzle Lakanto Maple Syrup
In a shallow bowl add the eggs, half and half, and vanilla. Stir well until completely combined
Dip each piece of bread into the egg mixture and flip so the batter will cover each side.
In a separate bowl add cinnamon and sweetener. Lightly coat or dip the battered bread into the cinnamon/sweetener mixture. Adjust the ratio of cinnamon:sweetener to your taste.
Melt a small piece of butter in a skillet over medium heat. Once your skillet is ready, add your french toast to the skillet all at once. You'll hear a sizzle.
Cook 2-3 minutes on each side.
Serve and enjoy with a side of fruit or eggs.
